This wasn't a natural phenomenon. Guatemala has a very large sewage system underneath some of its roads but these were built very long ago and Guatemala doesn't really have the technology to support something like that. Consequently years later roads have been collapsing and this hole just happened to be one of the largest. Excessive rain caused the collapse.
